David & Beverly Varner are missionaries to Guatemala and the founders of His Hands International. David surrendered to full time ministry in 2003-2004 time frame. When David surrendered to the Lord, he felt the Lord calling him to use his talents for the Lord. David points out that his talents are in deed a blessing from the Lord and not that of himself. David had been praying as to where the Lord wanted them to serve, when an opportunity came up to go on a short term mission trip to Guatemala. God provided in a miraculous way for the entire family to go on this trip. And there in Guatemala as David & Beverly were walking down the mountain from the orphanage, the Holy Spirit spoke to David and said, “This is where I want you, these are the people I want you to serve.” The Varner’s made this calling public in 2005, went home, raised their support and were back on the mission field in less than a year serving with Hope of Life International.
In the Fall of 2006, the Lord pressed upon David’s heart to begin a new work, and His Hands International was formed as a 501c3 non-profit. The Varner’s have started this ministry and have made a difference everywhere they have gone. For several years they continued to work in the Zacapa region of Guatemala, until the Lord opened a new door for them in the mountains above Guatemala City in the Sacatepéquez region. Here they have worked for several years helping change lives, including seeing a miracle of 2 children walking for the first time in over 10 years. “I believe God called us to this region just to help these 2 children”, David said.
Although David & Beverly are not on the mission field full time while they are stateside raising support, their work continues full time as they are in daily contact with the team in Guatemala. David was ordained as a Pastor in 2009 in Guatemala. David said, “When I surrendered to full time ministry, I gave God all my talents, but I told Him I did not want to preach or be in front of people, funny how God takes our weaknesses and turns them into strengths. I’ve learned not to put God in a box, or tell Him what I don’t want to do, or can’t do. Since Philippians 4:13 is my life verse, I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength!” The Varner’s are members of Bethel Baptist Church in Baskerville, VA and serve there when they are not on the mission field in Guatemala.
David felt the Holy Spirit calling him to work in a very poor village near Gualan, back in the Zacapa Region. “God has brought us back to the region He first called us, and I am excited to see what He is going to do next”, David said. A ministry partnership was formed with Radio Redención – 103.1 FM | Gualán, Zacapa, Guatemala where they have a social center project that is making a difference. “Together, we can do more for Christ”, David told the Directors of the Radio and TV station. And together, they made a difference!
In the late summer of 2016, we started our Living Waters Project. This project was to bring clean water to the village of La Linea which had no source of clean water. As of today, there are 3 functioning community wells in this village with close to 2 miles of water lines running through the entire village. With this project, we have ended water borne diseases and illnesses.
In July 2018 we began construction on our medical clinic which sees over 500 patients a month. The medical clinic is staffed with a full-time nurse and doctor, who show the love of Jesus to all who enter. We have ended childhood malnutrition in our village due to our efforts and partnerships with others, making sure every infant and toddler receives the proper nutrition they need.
In the Fall of 2022, we began to complete the second floor which would become our first Center of Dreams. The goal of this project is to teach and train future leaders and be a resource for the community for learning. The center will not only teach Biblical foundations, but trades that can be used for employment in the future.
His Hands International is a non-denominational, non-profit 501(c)3 organization. David points out that when we get to heaven, God is not going to ask us what “Religion” we are, but have you been washed in my blood. It is not about a “Religion” but a “Relationship”! We show love and compassion and build relationships, one child, one family, one village at a time, in the name of Jesus!
