It was around 8PM on a Sunday evening, we just came from a neighboring village. We were helping to resolve a dispute over a water line being replaced due to the torrential rains washing the dirt away and uncovering the water lines. We were frustrated because of some attitudes of ingratitude that were shown during this encounter.
This frustration quickly faded as we pulled back onto our ministry campus property, and the children came running to our truck as they always do. We needed to drop off one of our staff members and I wanted to say goodbye to the children before I headed back to Virginia in the morning. As I was saying goodbye and giving them hugs, or should I say as they were giving me hugs, my joy once again turned to sadness. One little boy whispered in my ear and asked me for money.
Now the children know not to ask me for money, because I will not give it to them. I am trying to teach them that it is not polite to ask the gringos for money when they come. Instead, I will give them a task to help me if they want to earn some money, but I will not just give it to them. The Bible says if a man does not work, then he should not eat 2 Thessalonians 3:10. We try to make teachable moments practical with the instruction manual God gave us.
So, this little boy when he whispered in my ear, knew where I stood before he posed the question. Now the full question the little boy asked was, Can I have some money to buy some bread? This was asked in a much different and humbling way. Being that late at night, I asked him if he ate or had food at the house. The answer was a heart wrenching no. I posed the same question to the other children which were from 2 different families, the answer was the same, none of them had eaten nor had food at home.
This is the dilemma we face daily, hungry children. Now I guarantee you I could not just walk away and say goodbye knowing these children were going to bed hungry if we didn’t intervene. After a quick check with parents who I don’t think were even around, they came back with their siblings, and we headed to the local pizza joint. These 11 children from 3 families consumed 6 pizzas, and about 3 gallons of soda. Even the 2-year-old’s consumed 2 full pieces of pizza and had another to take home. Two pieces fill me up, so you know how hungry they must have been.
We have immediate plans in the works to help these children, but we have a whole village of other children who I thought of that night who probably went to bed hungry. Folks, we really need your help! When we feed these children in Jesus’ name, we are blessing God. When we turn our backs on these hungry children, we are turning our backs on God, Matthew 25:35-46. The little girl in the photo below has ground corn which will be made into tortillas. This is about all these children have to eat daily.
We are in the process of completing the second floor of the clinic which will be used for many things, but the main immediate purpose will be a feeding center. We need to complete this and the kitchen ASAP!! We need to raise around $21,000 immediately to complete the construction as quickly as we can, while simultaneously starting a feeding program which cost around $3/child per meal, or roughly $1500 weekly for approximately 100 children. This provides at least 1 hot nutritious meal 5 days a week to the most vulnerable children. We want and need to do 7 days a week and are praying in that direction.
We are asking for donations of any size as well as regular monthly donors. All monthly donations can be set up automatically on our website. If you are sending a large donation over $1000, please send a check to His Hands International 1874 Daniels Road Boydton, VA 23917.
Please on behalf of all these children, and in the name of Jesus, I humbly ask for your help. 100% of your donation, other than what PayPal charges us for credit card transactions, is put to use in helping these children. We take nothing for administrative costs, or for our personal expenses. God has provided for our needs through other sources. And He will provide for this need! Whether through you or someone else, God will provide all our needs according to HIS riches in glory. Philippians 4:19 Don’t miss out on a blessing! Remember, we are blessed, to be a blessing!
