On Sunday October 29, 2017 His Hands International in partnership with Radio Redencion, inaugurated our first church/community center project in Los Limones, Gualan, Guatemala. This facility was built by civil engineering students from the University Rural of Zacapa Guatemala at no charge to us as part of their studies, applying what they learned in the classroom. It was built out of mostly reclaimed or scrap materials, like pallets, tin, and tree bark. It has metal rebar bracing to hold the pallets in place. The interior has a plastic film over the pallets and then drywall on top. Later we will be installing a solar powered electrical system for lighting.
This facility will be used for many purposes including a location to hold our church services. The ladies will have a location to meet and work on their crochet projects for the micro-enterprise we funded. In early 2018 we will be launching an educational program that will begin to teach children and adults to read and write, as well as a host of other classes to educate and benefit the community, helping to break the cycle of poverty in their community.
We still have some additional work to do on the facility like additional drywall work, and painting the walls and ceiling. The outside needs another coat of sealer on the wood. The exterior roof needs coated and painted. We need to tile the floor inside, and level the ground in front and install pavers outside so mud and dirt are not tracked inside. If you would like to partner with us to help with this or any project, please contact us or make an online donation.
