This year has been a year for overnight changes and Hurricane Eta was another one of those overnight changes for Guatemala. Flood waters just decimated anything in it’s path. Families already living day by day in bad conditions, lost what little they had. All over Guatemala there are tragic stories of devastation. But we have been placed where we are for such a time as this. To help in practical ways and bring hope in the name of Jesus. Below is one of the little villages we serve in Los Limones, their humble homes made of tin, sticks, and wire all flooded and all their possessions ruined.

This little village is for the most part a tight knit community full of children. Our mission is dedicated to the folks in this community. We believe that a focused effort on one community will make a bigger and lasting impact, rather than jumping from village to village doing little things. In the last 3 to 4 years we have ended water borne diseases through our Living Waters Projects, by bringing a reliable clean water system to the entire village. Through our relationships with the local government we were instrumental in bringing electricity to this community, also for the first time in history. We have wiped out infant and toddler malnutrition through our clinic by providing essential vitamins, nutrients, and formula for these early years of a child’s growth. What we are doing, works.

Today is a new day. Do we mope around and have a pity party because there was another major overnight change and set back? A resounding NO! We continue to move forward with our original vision and calling to help the folks in this village. Only now, some are displaced in a temporary encampment outside the village waiting for someone to help them. You see these folks are not like us and have credit cards or bank accounts to help us get out of a jam. They live mostly day to day. A simple life in most cases that I sometimes envy.
